Gjirokastër Castle

Gjirokastër Castle

A massive hilltop fortress offering panoramic views of the city and surrounding Drino Valley. Inside, you’ll find old military equipment, a prison museum, and even a Cold War-era bunker.

The Stone City

Nicknamed the “City of Stone” because of its unique architecture, Girokaster’s stone roofs, streets, and houses have stood the test of time. They’re truly remarkable.

Birthplace of Ismail Kadare

Girokaster is the birthplace of Albania’s most famous writer, Ismail Kadare, whose house is now a museum.

Skenduli House & Ethnographic Museum

Skenduli House is one of the best-preserved Ottoman houses in the city, showcasing traditional Albanian life. The Ethnographic Museum, located in the former home of the communist dictator Enva Hoxha, offers more cultural insights.

Delicious Local Cuisine
