UNDISCOVERED GEM AND BARGAIN OF THE BALKANS

A small country located in the Balkans stretching inland from the coastline of the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, Albania, for so many years a hidden mystery, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists. No surprises really as at one level it has a rich history, stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and friendly locals. Perhaps more importantly costs here are around 50% of what you will pay in neighbouring countries. But don’t be mistaken into thinking it’s in any way lower quality – don’t miss the chance to take advantage of such amazing prices before they catch up with the rest of the world.

HERITAGE AND CULTURE

Albania has a deep and rich cultural legacy with a wealth of archaeological remains and two UNESCO World Heritage sites at Butrint and Girokaster. Both are well worth a visit, Butrint (pictured) a palimpsest of human occupation since the bronze ages, Girokaster an Ottoman treasure house.

BEACHES & BLUE WATERS

The Adriatic coast of Albania known as the ‘Albanska Riviera’ has a wonderful expanse of beaches washed by crystal clear waters. There are some really great resorts for a chill out holiday, with very reasonably priced hotels.

LAKES & MOUNTAINS

From rugged mountains and lush forests to pristine beaches, one of the primary reasons for the growing interest in Albanian tourism is its breathtaking natural landscapes.

HISTORIC CITIES

The capital Tirana is a vibrant city offering a blend of history, culture and urban energy with a distinctive Balkan ‘twist’. Girokaster is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a unique Ottoman flavour, as is Berat known as the ‘City of 1,000 Windows’. Kruje and Shkoder are lively typical Albanian towns.

SIGHTS & SITES

Albania is a feast for the senses with stunning natural beauty wherever you go. It also has some fabulous history and Butrint (pictured) should really be ranked as one of the ancient and modern wonders of the world, dating back to the bronze age but occupied by just about every civilisation that existed around the Mediterranean.
